Paper:
I was asked to migrate a range of applications to different frameworks.
One of the changes was that JDBC had to be replaced with JPA.
In theory this should be a cinch, but in practice it was very hard. For a range of reasons. Not all of them technical.
In this talk I:
- Show why you ‘should’ migrate to JPA.
- Give an introduction to JPA.
- Show why it is a good idea to use JPA instead of an implementation.
(Hibernate, openJPA, EclipseLink, …) - Share the problems we encountered.
And what you could do to circumvent them. - Give tips on how to improve code quality.
- Share where to think about with Unit Testing.
