Mon-soon (https://github.com/groupon/monsoon) is a monitoring system that my coworkers and I recently opensourced.

Mon-soon, like prometheus, is a descendant from borgmon (internal monitoring tool at google).
Because they share the same heritage, they have a lot of commonalities, but also some differences.

In this talk I'll cover:

  • what Mon-soon is and how it works.
  • how it came into existence.
  • how it compares to Prometheus.
  • what was involved in opensourcing it.
  • some of the challenges now that it is opensourced.
