Where Open Maths meets OpenVPN

For the International Math Olympiad, held in the Netherlands Competa co-designed, built and operated a multi-site VPN network. This network was built is 2 days especially designed for the event operations. This talk describes the use of OpenVPN to build a network that spanned 5 locations and provided secure services for more than 1000 people in the contest.
We will go into the tech details of setting up the OpenVPN infrastructure and the peculiarities of the setup on eg. routing. The VPN endpoints were running OpenVPN on FreeBSD. We extensively used VLANS to separate traffic. This talk will explain the technical basics of OpenVPN and its use in professional environments, what pitfalls are to be avoided and how OpenVPN could help you quickly getting a safe multi site VPN cloud.
