Jan Smout (37) is a Software Designer at Sioux Embedded Systems in Herentals, Belgium. His first introduction to Linux was in 1994. As a starting software engineer Jan was intrigued by the possibility of tweaking and building the Linux system yourself, not constrained by any proprietary issues. His fascination is still vivid today, as he leads the Linux Expertise Group at Sioux. This group of 20 experts looks into the newest developments within Linux and their value for the embedded software community. Jan's main interests lie in the fields of compiler toolchains, debuggers, (Linux) device drivers and networking. Jan is a member of the NLUUG.
